Fenbendazole For Horses and Other Pets
Often called "fenben," fenbendazole (also known by the brand name Pancur) is commonly used in veterinary medicine to treat parasites and worms, including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and some tapeworms. It is also increasingly being used in humans as part of a cancer treatment protocol known as the Joe Tippens Protocol.
Fenbendazole is a member of the benzimidizole group of antiparasitic drugs. This class of medications are broad spectrum, meaning that they have a high level of effectiveness against a wide variety of parasites. It works by binding to b-tubulin in the parasite, which destroys the function of microtubules within the cell and leads to the detachment and death of the parasite.
For equine use, fenbendazole is FDA-approved for the removal of large intestinal roundworms (Ascaris suum), lungworms (Metastrongylus apri, Metastrongylus pudendotectus) and stomach worms (Hyostrongylus rubidus). It is also approved for control of ascarids in big cats (lions, tigers and leopards) and bears.
In addition to removing parasites in animals, fenbendazole has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and promote the radiation response. In a study where EMT6 cancer cells were exposed to three daily i.p. injections of fenbendazole, the number of spontaneous lung metastases that developed was significantly decreased. This is believed to be due to the synergistic effect of fenbendazole and vitamins, which act together to reduce mitochondrial activity in cancer cells.
While it's important to follow the recommendations of your veterinarian, fenbendazole is considered safe for most horses and other pets when administered as directed. If your pet develops any side effects, contact your veterinarian immediately.fenbendazole capsules
