Understanding what's trending is critical for knowing what new skills to learn, how to find a job, and much more. At one time, there is a lot of information available that it can be difficult to determine what to read or easy to become overwhelmed. The approach is to use email newsletters to stay current on the newest news, tools, and tutorials. These fantastic newsletters provide you with everything you need to know to stay current in data science. Their creators worked hard so that you wouldn't have to.

1. Data Science Weekly

Data Science Weekly has been compiled by Hannah Beck (business strategy specialist) and Sebastian Perez (i viz & D3.js ninja) since 2013, hand-choosing the best articles and sending them out every Thursday morning. DSW also has some amazing Data Science Conversations and keeps a fairly comprehensive collection of Data Science References on Twitter, including books, meetings, datasets, blogs, and data scientists. Each edition of Data Science Weekly begins with its Members' Picks for the finest articles first from the previous weekly, followed by lengthy lists of data articles and tutorials, delivering the ideal mix to help you keep a finger on the pulse of data science.

2. Data Elixir

Lon Reisberg, a self-described technology nerd with good professional experience that includes working for NASA, curates Data Elixir every week. Data Elixir has provided the greatest data science news and resources to data lovers' inboxes every Friday since 2014. Data Elixir is an excellent all-arounder, providing a mix of news, opinion, and tutorials. Lon also keeps a data science job board current and includes the most recent job postings in each week's newsletter.

3. Data Science Roundup

RJMetrics was the first to launch the Data Science Roundup. Once RJMetrics was split into two separate firms and sold, the 'summary' became independent and was sponsored via Fishtown Analytics + Stitch. Data Science Roundup is delivered to your inbox every Friday, just in time for some weekend reading. Rather than a long collection of articles, the DS Roundup usually features only four or five excellent reads. Tristan Hardy compiles Data Science Roundup, and I appreciate the description he puts together for each item. It's quite straightforward to read, indicating that even though I cannot devour every post, I can still absorb the main points.

4. KDnuggets

The canary yellow color scheme of KDnuggets has a wonderfully soothing effect. Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro has passionately maintained KDnuggets, perhaps the complete data science websites, for over 20 years. Of over 649 issues going back to when it launched on Aug 20, 1993, this newsletter is by far the oldest on our list. KDnuggets News, which originally appeared twice a month but is currently published weekly on Wednesdays, is a roundup of more than 30 items uploaded to KDnuggets weekly. KDnuggets news is just a list of the links with no summaries, but it's among the more complete roundups of what happened in the previous week, so it was worth adding to.

5. Data Newsletter from O'Reilly

I recall purchasing my initial O'Reilly book, Scripting Perl, in 1996. Many data scientists and engineers learned to code from O'Reilly publications, which have distinctive animal covers and are regarded as second to none in quality. O'Reilly has been releasing books on data since the 1980s, but in the last 6 years, with the launch of their Strat + Hadoop World conference, O'Reilly has become a data powerhouse. Their weekly data email is an excellent combination of news, opinion, how-tos, and case studies from O'Reilly and others. I especially like how they group clusters of several articles on the same news item or subject to present a balanced perspective.

6. Analytics Report

Mode Analytics has been curating the Analytics Dispatch since December 2015. Mode creates an analytics framework that enables you to produce reports and visualizations from practically any data source using SQL and Python notebooks. It's a fantastic software we use at Connectivity speeds for our analyses, and we adore it! (They didn't do anything to obtain this testimonial except offer a fantastic product). That each Monday morning, Daily Analytics Dispatch arrives in your email with a wonderful mix of data publications. Due to their duties, these articles generally address more analysis issues (including a lot of SQL), which I find useful - I'm always discovering from the various articles you post that can help my day-to-day job.
