How to write a persuasive essay for university
Even if your grades aren't good enough, you can still get into Harvard, and not the best TOEFL and GMAT scores can get you into Stanford. It happens a lot. It's all about a well-written essay that shows off your ambition and reveals your talent. This article tells you how to write an essay in English for university admission abroad.
As Ivy League admissions officers say, the essay is the most memorable part of all admissions documents. It shows the applicant as a person. Many people have the same grades and test scores, but it's the master paper review that helps you stand out from that crowd. It shows how you can present yourself, analyze information, express your thoughts and communicate with others in writing.
Do not confuse the essay with a motivation letter or personal statement. The latter are almost always required, usually in a single document. However, top universities like Harvard or Yale ask you to write a creative essay as well. So the admissions committee checks whether you have creative abilities and what is the level of compatibility with the university.
For Harvard, it's important to have leadership qualities, because they train executives. And if you want to go to Columbia University, you need to be interested in world issues and have an informed opinion on any issue.
The important difference between essays is the word limit. Each university sets its own acceptable essay size. Sometimes you need to fit your thoughts into just 150 words - that's one paragraph. This means that all answers must be clear and sensible, but not dry and not one-syllable.
