Pacman 30th Anniversary: Everything You Need To Know
For the 30th Anniversary of Pac-Man, Here's What You Need to Know
As a kid, Pac-Man was one of my all-time favorite arcade games.
In honor of pacman 30th anniversary in 2010, Google featured the game in a doodle, encouraging people to stay inside during the covid-imposed lockdown so that they could enjoy some nostalgic gaming.
On May 21, 2010, to celebrate what would have been Pacman's 30th birthday, Google featured the game as a google doodle game on the website's front page.
Since his initial release in the 1980s, Pac-Man has remained one of gaming's most beloved and well-known icons.
Game popularity has been rising rapidly since its release on the Google Play store.
For all the Pac-fans out there, I figured you'd like to know about the upcoming celebration of the game's 30th anniversary and other news you won't find anywhere else.
In Japan, where it was created, the Pac-Man video game is known by its original name, "Pluck man."
Gameplay centers on navigating a labyrinthine maze, and it was created by Namco of Japan for arcades before Midway Manufacturing released it in the United States.
The object of the game is to guide Pacman through the maze and eat all the dots while avoiding four enemies, or colored ghosts, named Blinky (red), Pinky (pink), Inly (cyan), and Clyde (blue) (orange colored).
If you manage to eat all the dots in a level of Pacman without being caught by the pursuing ghosts, you'll be able to move on to the next, more challenging level.
At the game's bottom, you'll find fruit-shaped icons that correspond to each level. If Pac-Man gets eaten by a ghost, he loses a life, and the game keeps going until he runs out of lives.
The speed of the different colored ghosts accelerates with each level, but once you hit level 256, the game becomes unplayable due to an integer overflow that makes the level load slowly and unresponsive.
The ghosts change color to blue if you can find and eat large flashing pellets called power pellets, which indicate you can eat them and earn bonus points for doing so.
The game was designed with the intention of appealing to players of both sexes, in contrast to the more traditional male-oriented video games that typically focused on war, fighting, and violence.
In 1979, a group of nine people led by Toru Iwatani began working on what would become the Pacman video game. The game's protagonist was inspired by a pizza with a slice cut out of it, but later evolved into something more resembling the Japanese character Kuchi.
The developers put extra effort into making the in-game characters appealing to younger players by making them cute and colorful.
The original Pac-Man game was so popular that it spawned a slew of spinoffs, merchandising opportunities, and even two successful TV series.
What's more, you might be surprised to learn that Bandai Namco Entertainment uses Pacman as its official mascot, given that the franchise generates $14 billion in annual revenue.
Let's learn more about the celebrations for Pacman's 30th anniversary.

Few games have lasted for a decade, let alone three decades. The fact that so many people still enjoy playing Pacman 30 years after it was first released, with its relatively primitive graphics and simplistic gameplay, has made it a gaming legend.
The game has gone through a number of iterations over the past 30 years, starting with floppy disks, then CDs, then USB flash drives, and now the Android Google Play store.
If you're wondering what the big deal is about Pac-Man turning 30, I'll shed some light on the subject.
The fact that it was the first game to feature a graphical user interface undoubtedly contributed to its widespread appeal, and 30 years and numerous updates later, it is still going strong.
There were many celebrations for Pacman's 30th anniversary, and one of the biggest was the release of Pacman Championship Edition 2, a new major version of the game that came as a complete surprise to fans.
Compared to the original Pac-Man, this new version is a revelation thanks to its many improvements, including its many new skins, new look, advanced features, bonus content, and many other noticeable changes.
The creators of Pac-Man have promised that future seasons and editions will feature even more improvements, cutting-edge visuals, and innovative modes of play to keep the game fresh and exciting for fans.
The designers are also hard at work on a fresh remake of the classic Pacman game, which will be released to the public in the near future. Click here for a full-screen game of Pac-Man.
