Why is silica sol used in investment casting?
Silica sol is a milky colloid. Due to the small colloidal particles (10-20 microns) and the large surface area, the natural color of the coating material is not affected. Silica sol is miscible with water, but not with organic solvents. It can be dissolved in any proportion of alcohol or water mixed solution. Its distinctive feature is that it has low viscosity and can penetrate the water-soaked place. Therefore, when the silica sol is mixed with other substances, it has excellent dispersibility and permeability. When the water in the silica sol evaporates, the colloidal particles are firmly attached to the surface of the material, and a silicon-oxygen bond is formed between the particles. It is a good adhesive. This is the main role of silica sol as a stainless steel forming binder in investment casting.
Silica sol castings are mainly used for products with high corrosion resistance and high dimensional accuracy, because silica sol steel castings can have better surface quality and smaller geometric deviations. The main silica sol steel castings we produce include meat grinder parts, valve castings, pump castings, marine hardware, furniture decoration, etc.
Silica sol casting in our foundry
In our foundry, all stainless steel castings are produced by sol casting. Stainless steel 304 and stainless steel 316 are the main material grades of sol castings. We can produce single weight 0.01kg-50kg, mainly exported to the United States, Australia, Canada, South Africa and other international markets. Silica sol casting can be performed for further processing.
