The trading of virtual currencies against real-world currencies can be a major issue for many online games, upsetting in-game economies, and skewing player experience or making games pay-to-win scenarios. In OSRS Gold the trade of its virtual gold has been a particular problem, leading to bots mining the resourceand claims that the ability to buy 'bonds' in the game in real money amounts to gambling.

Now, Jagex has announced strategies to address the issue. In a blog article which is credited to "The RuneScape Team", Jagex states that "gold bought through RWT is a problem for any online game that has a tradeable currency", and that although its "Anti-Cheating Team has done a lot to tackle RWT sellers in and out of the game" the company will be taking more severe measures from the moment it takes effect.

The company cites the "growing team " and "improved methods", Jagex says it will no longer just be focused on sellers of gold and other resources through RWT but as well buyers. The idea is to curb the demand, and supply.

Jagex says it will be sending "messages to those whom we've found engaging with the RWT" within "the next few hours". "For anyone who was involved, we want to emphasize that this is your sole und only caution," it added.

Other measures that the developer could consider as punishment for RWT activity include wealth removal , which is basically removing ill-gotten gains from players' accounts on the server level, as well as potential bans.

RuneScape's PvP feature, known as"the Duel Arena, will also be subject to stricter rules. Jagex says the feature "has been a catalyst for this kind of shady behavior" and that 38 percent of all bans for RWT activities up to now result from this particular aspect to the gameplay. The company says it has already amounted in "thousands of bans every month".

As a result, the developer seems to be opting for the extreme route of saying "we're contemplating in the near future to remove the Duel Arena out of RuneScape completely." In the meantime the game will take "some small-scale actions" to improve PvP "until our development teams are able to deliver major updates that completely will replace the Duel Arena next year."

The rules will have a limit on the amount of GP or gold point which players can stake on an event on the Duel Arena. The players will be able to place bets "no over 50m GP per duel". Further measures have not been detailed as yet.

Jagex declares that "a brand new game that will make up part of the Elder God Wars storyline" will replace Duel Arena in the early 2022 timeframe However, no additional details are available yet with OSRS Buy Gold.
