In the plastic injection molding industry, how does robotics work?

Industrial robots are commonly used in today's plastics industry in all areas of the manufacturing process, including injection molding operations, due to an ever-increasing need for more versatile solutions.

By using a pick-and-place robot to load plastic parts into the machine or place finished pieces onto a conveyor belt, industrial robots can automate the injection molding process.

And, since human-operated injection molding allows for variations, using robots in the process ensures that the highest quality, precisely cut, shaped, and measured finished products are created every time.

Automated Injection Molding vs. Traditional Injection Molding

The plastic resin is manually fed into an injection molding machine and then gradually melted in the conventional process of injection molding. The plastic is forced through a nozzle into a mold, where pressure is applied until the cooling time has passed.

When a human operator removes the generated part and positions it on a conveyor belt, the frame opens up. Depending on the amount of components to be assembled, the process is repeated an infinite number of times.

When it comes to automated injection molding, the routine process is assigned to machines, allowing human operators to concentrate on more complicated tasks and inspection.

Robotics can be used in different parts of the manufacturing and post-production processes to speed up and reduce the cost of processing and assembling plastic molding.

Often focus on a highly automated plastic injection molding process when collaborating with third-party operators on designing a prototype or serial manufacturing of parts for your purposes.

This way, you can be assured that the finished parts will be of the highest quality and at the most affordable price.

High-speed and adaptable

One thing is certain: robots are increasingly being used as an option for injection molding operations, as 3-axis robots are used for horizontal plastic injection molding machines and high-speed processes, and 6-axis robots are versatile in both vertical and horizontal injection molding machines.

Now that you have a better understanding of how robotics can be used in injection molding operations and the advantages they offer, you can at least ask about how they can help you take your plastic injection molding output to the next level.

Robotics in the Post-Processing Sector

In the post-processing of plastic injection molding, robotics also play an important role. When opposed to a human employee performing the same job, many producers choose to use a robotic trimming cell because it offers superior repeatability.

It increases the efficiency and flexibility of the entire process by conducting multiple operations at the same time.

The industrial robot can continuously dispense the same amount of sealant or adhesives in a highly repeatable pattern, resulting in improved shot accuracy, faster cycle times, and less waste.
