The same is applicable to collaborations
Gosh, this looks so complex. On Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta the one hand, kudos for maintaining the game intact so that there won't be a riot over fluctuations people don't like. However on the other hand, since they're remaking base PSO2 visuals anyway, I wish they'd just go 100% and synchronize personality models completely. Giving old players a few free style items and unlocks would be enough to bribe everyone to accept the new system.
Synchronizing 100% personality models doesn't seem easy. The dilemma is that the old outfits and layer wear are modeled to fit the old pso2 body. In order to synchronize it, they'd have to recreate from scratch (haha pun) 8 years of cosmetics. That's not likely to occur. I mean that I would be ready to shed a certain proportion of these makeup to keep things intact around variations. As long as there's a continuous feed of cool new things to replace it, I do not mind. I always rotate out my old appearances anyhow. Provided that the character versions translate 1:1 it'll still feel just like mine.
I would imagine a large complication to that entails a lot of the cosmetics from the Western side of things that were exclusive to collaborations, promotional events, and events which no longer exist. The instance I can think of is that the Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration where I could imagine the weapons and clothing could definitely be provided a visual upgrade along with everything else but I don't exactly understand how the licensing or the way the side of the cooperation works in which I would want it was as simple as Sega going through and upgrading the assets but I do not understand about how much Capcom is involved in this process.
The same is applicable to collaborations such as the Final Fantasy XIV cooperation with Odin (which still exists as far as I know) where I don't know just how much Square Enix is involved that for Sega to be able to update assets there. When it was only just Phantasy Star-related things (such as character outfits, cameos from different games, or alternative Sega-related possessions ) I could imagine that this probably would have been done, or would be carried out. But in the worldwide variant we already don't have the presence of Cougar NX so that I do not know if there are other complications seeing Sega's own properties that may also contribute to cheap PSO2 Meseta not updating everything they could within reason.
