"I will work for KPGA right now"
Wonseop Kim, Advisor to Fungsan Group, has been elected as the 19th President of the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA).
The KPGA held its General Assembly of Delegates on March 23 at the KPGA Building in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, to elect its 19th president. With 183 (91.04%) of the 201 delegates in attendance, Kim received 108 of the 183 votes cast, defeating incumbent Koo Ja-cheol, who received only 75 votes.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the members for their support," Kim said, "and I will do my best to help the Korean men's professional golf leap to greater heights. I will start thinking about the KPGA right now and move forward."
Kim will serve a four-year term as president of the KPGA, beginning next January and ending in 2027.
Mr. Kim graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a degree in Political Science and Diplomacy, and joined the United States Air Force in 1982, where he served for seven years. Since then, he has worked as a consultant for a major law firm on patent infringement, a reporter for The Korea Times, a director at IMG Korea, the head of J-Golf at Joongang Media Group, the head of X-Sports, a special assistant to the president of the Korean Basketball League (KBL), and a representative of MK Associates. He currently serves as an advisor to Foshan Group, 먹튀검증토토사이트 led by Chairman Ryu Jin Hankyung-hyeop, and as a member of the board of directors of First T Korea Foundation.
In the election, Kim promised to "sponsor Pungsan Group to the tune of 10 billion won during his term," "strengthen the global competitiveness of the KPGA Korean Tour," "improve the environment of the KPGA Korean Tour, the 2nd Tour, and the Champions Tour and increase prize money," "revitalize tour marketing and introduce a management system for existing sponsors. Prior to the election, Ryu Jin, chairman of the Fungsan Group, who is also the chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, made a public declaration of support. At a meeting with candidate supporters before the election, he said, "I believe that Kim Won-seop is the right person to design a new KPGA. I am confident that he will implement policies that KPGA members can be proud of," he said. He also emphasized that Kim, who has a lot of experience in the sports industry, should focus on building the inner workings of the organization if elected, as I will be out looking for sponsors."
