5 US States With Online Sports Betting
Sports betting is an emerging and successful industry that is now available in more states than ever before. These states allow sports betting, either through a casino or via web or mobile apps ไทเกอร์711
Some have made progress, while others have stalled due to a variety of issues. Some are mired in disagreements involving lawmakers, existing casinos, state lotteries, tribal casinos, leagues, and sportsbooks.
Nevada
The state of Nevada has been a leader in online sports betting for decades. It is one of the most popular destinations for gamblers from all over the world. This state is the only one in the US that allows both land-based and online sports wagering.
The repeal of PASPA has opened up a new market for NV sportsbooks, which can now compete with any other states that have legalized the sport. This has helped them grow their business and make huge profits.
Before PASPA came into play, there were many illegal gambling establishments in Nevada. This included a handful of illegal betting parlors in Las Vegas, as well as a few semi-legal turf clubs that were a bit more difficult to track.
Once the law passed, a 10% tax was levied on all sports bets made in Nevada. This was a significant barrier to entry, but it slowly dropped over the years.
Today, sports bettors can place their wagers from anywhere in the country using an online app. The process can be confusing, though. You’ll need to register and activate your account.
Several Nevada sportsbooks also offer mobile apps for Android and iOS devices, including Caesars Entertainment’s Caesars Sports. This app allows you to use a Caesars Entertainment Play+ card for your wagers, which can be used at any land-based sportsbook in the state.
Delaware
Delaware is one of the earliest states to offer legal sports betting. The state introduced single-event wagers at three of its casinos in June 2018, less than a month after the Supreme Court ruled that PASPA was unconstitutional.
While the state’s online gambling options aren’t quite as advanced as its neighbors, it has one advantage that could help it attract more wagers: a partial exemption from federal law allowing parlay sports betting through its lottery. It’s a little known fact, but before PASPA, Delaware’s Lottery had offered parlay sports betting to players.
It was a limited form of parlay sports betting, but it did get some attention and helped the lottery to become more successful. The state pushed for parlay sports betting to evolve into something more like the kind of bets it has today, but it was denied by the federal government.
Currently, there are only three licensed retail sportsbooks in Delaware. These are located at Harrington Casino, Dover Downs Hotel and Casino, and Delaware Park. These sportsbooks offer a variety of bet types and a wide range of deposit and withdrawal methods. These include credit cards, debit cards, w-wallets, electronic money transfers, and more.
Iowa
The Hawkeye State of Iowa is home to a number of sportsbooks, many of which accept mobile bets. While some of these options are already well-established, the state has been a leading player in online sports betting since August 2019.
The legality of sports betting in Iowa is established through IA Code SS 99F and additional regulations crafted by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC). The minimum age to participate is 21 years old.
When it comes to the types of bets available at sportsbooks, players can place wagers on a variety of different events. This includes the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, and college sports.
Some of the most popular bets include betting on a specific team, as well as head-to-head (H2H) parlays. Aside from this, bettors can also use prop bets to improve their odds. These bets can be a great way to make some extra money, but be sure to research their terms and conditions carefully before making your first bet.
Kansas
Kansas is a great place to visit for many reasons, including its delicious barbecue food and stunning natural scenery. The state is also known for its rich culture, making it a great destination for a family vacation or a romantic getaway.
There are a few legal gambling options in Kansas, including horse racing and the lottery. In addition, residents can bet on social and charitable events and online daily fantasy sports.
To start betting, you must first register with a sportsbook. This will require you to provide your personal and contact details, as well as the last four digits of your Social Security number.
Alternatively, you may be asked to upload scanned documents. Once you’ve done this, you can deposit funds and begin placing bets.
A number of legal sportsbooks operate in Kansas, but the best ones include DraftKings and FanDuel. Both offer impressive bonuses, a wide range of markets and a sleek mobile interface.
PointsBet is another top choice, offering an impressive range of pre-game and in-play markets and a unique “Karma Kommittee” that reimburses bettors if certain situations occur. The operator also offers a wide variety of different bet types, including moneylines, spreads, totals, game props, player props and same-game parlays.
Kentucky
Kentucky is home to a large population and has some of the best horse racing in the country. It also hosts the annual Kentucky Derby, which is a popular race that brings in a lot of revenue for the state.
As a result, the Bluegrass State has some of the strictest gambling laws in the US. Casino and tribal gambling are illegal, and poker is also outlawed. However, there are other gambling types that are legal in Kentucky such as pari-mutuel wagering on horses and the lottery.
In March 2023, Governor Andy Beshear signed sports betting legislation into law which means that Kentucky residents can begin placing bets on sporting events. Although it will take some time before online sportsbooks and KY betting apps arrive, it is expected to happen in the next few years.
Once sports betting is legal, there will be a wide variety of wagers to choose from, including moneyline bets, totals, spreads, single-game parlays, prop bets, futures and more. There will also be live betting, which allows you to place a wager on a game while it is in progress.
It is estimated that legal sports betting could bring in about $23 million a year in tax revenue and licensing fees. It is likely that sports betting will be regulated by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission when it launches, which would allow for a competitive environment among Kentucky sportsbooks.
Maine
In a relatively short amount of time, Maine is poised to become the fifth US state with legal online sports betting. Governor Janet Mills signed LD 585 into law in early May 2022, and the state is now on its way to becoming a sports betting mecca for fans of online gaming.
LD 585 authorizes up to four federally recognized Native American tribes to partner with external providers to offer online sports betting in the state. The law also allows for up to ten retail sportsbooks at casinos, race tracks and off-track betting facilities (OTBs).
Although LD 585 has received the green light from the legislature and has passed the governor’s signature, it won’t go live until summer 2023. That’s because Maine law requires new bills to wait 90 days before they’re effective.
It’s a long road ahead for Maine, but the state is well on its way to becoming one of the most progressive states in the country when it comes to gambling. It has four tribal gaming casinos, a pair of casino racetracks and six off-track betting parlors.
The debate in Maine has been whether or not to tether future mobile sportsbooks to existing retail locations in the state. It’s a highly contentious issue in the state, and lawmakers were divided on the issue. Proponents believe it would encourage further competition and create a better product for sports bettors, while opponents argued that the move adds additional fees to the licensing process.
Utah
Utah is a state that has been known for its strong Mormon community, and it’s also one of only two states in the US where sports betting is not legal. The state is one of the most anti-gambling states in the country, and there are very few chances that sports betting will become legal in Utah anytime soon.
The state’s gambling laws are strict, and the law makes it a Class B misdemeanor to bet on any kind of sporting event. It’s also illegal to bet on horse races in the state.
While sports betting in Utah isn’t possible in-person, you can still place bets on your favorite teams online. However, you’ll want to find a sportsbook that offers a great variety of games and is easy to use.
Another thing to look for is the security of your personal information. The best sports betting sites have advanced data encryption, fraud protection, and trained technical staff to keep your personal details safe.
While Utah does not have any state-regulated sportsbooks, there are offshore sportsbooks that allow residents to place bets on their favorite teams. The most popular offshore sportsbooks include BetUS, Xbet, and SportsBetting. These sportsbooks offer a variety of bet types, bonuses, and customer support.
