117 claimed that they would offer Jagex an alternative which was to OSRS gold remove their application once Jagex had released theirs, and giving Jagex "collaborative influence" over Runelite HD's design style.

"They did not want to be open about it," 117 said. "I am so sad and disappointed with Jagex, and I am extremely disappointed that, after this lengthy journey that I'm unable to reveal this project with you. The mod of 117 doesn't appear to go against Jagex's guidelines for third-party clients, however the Runescape developer says that it's changing the guidelines in the coming week, adding references to initiatives that impact the appearance to the player.

Original Runelite developer Adam1210 shared his thoughts on Reddit, saying that allowing Runelite HD to continue would be a net benefit for future updates by Jagex.

"I am also adamantly against including it in the "third rules of third parties," Adam1210 said. "Most of them are trying to define where the line between quality of life] and cheating is and I'm convinced that the majority of people believe that the current guidelines are a good description of that. it helps keeps sic the integrity of the game.

There isn't any disadvantage in any way for better graphics and it only affects you when you enable it. This is an abuse of guidelines. So overall this is really an inconvenience for everyone involved and I'd like to see Jagex could reconsider."

A few players of the Runelite HD project have taken to a town square in Falador the capital city for one of Runescape's most important kingdoms, to stage a sit-in demonstration similar to the protest World of Warcraft players held in July. Players can be seen in the video below, posting text dialogue criticizing Jagex for their decision, and hashtags such as #Free117. Another video shows additional players "marching" in front of cheap RS gold Falador Square.
