In response to legislation that was passed in the last year the the Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar has announced his office's list containing financial firms who will not do business with the gas and oil industry Austin Journal.

"The environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) movement has produced an opaque and perverse system in which some financial companies no longer make decisions in the best interest of their shareholders or their clients, but instead use their financial clout to push a social and political agenda shrouded in secrecy,"

Hegar declared in an Austin Journal "Our analysis was focused on the boycott of energy-related companies and not a thorough examination of the entire ESG movement. The research revealed a widespread inefficiency that should be of concern to all American whatever their political beliefs and, in particular, the use of doublespeak by a few financial institutions when they are engaged in anti-oil and natural gas rhetoric in public, but present the opposite story in private."
